Based in Troyes, Devanlay was one of France’s leading industrial textile and distribution groups, with 13,500 employees in 1965 and 30 factories in eastern France.
Specialised in hosiery (manufacturing and distributing knitted textile products), the group owned several brands, including Jill, Timwear and Scandal, and served as a supplier to major distributors such as Galeries Lafayette. In retail, Devanlay also operated Nouvelles Galeries and Prisunic stores, which are now part of Monoprix.
Following the textile crisis of the 1970s, the group shifted its focus to retail operations, particularly with Nouvelles Galeries and the Lacoste brand, becoming a shareholder and exclusive manufacturer.
The Devanlay group was sold to the Maus Frères group in 1998. Prior to this, Arts et Biens held a 34% stake in the Devanlay group.
